Students put a smile on hundreds of faces

UniCollege students collected 1 502 chocolate eggs which they handed out to four different organisation in Krugersdorp for Easter.

UniCollege went big during the Easter period, looking to bring a smile to as many faces as possible. In the end, students collected an impressive 1 502 chocolate eggs in their Easter drive as part of their outreach programme to support the Krugersdorp community.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) and finalists in the Mr and Miss UniCollege pageant set off on Thursday, 14 April to make their first stop on their journey across town.

They spent some time with the senior citizens at Moria Residentia, handing out Easter eggs,” explained Laricia Smith from UniCollege.

“From there they visited the Cradle of Hope to drop off Easter eggs to be distributed to homeless people. A quick visit was also made to the 9th Day Animal Shelter to hand out Easter eggs to the volunteers at the shelter, as the students felt that volunteers at worthy causes such as animal shelters were often overlooked. A handover was also done at Logwood Village, a home for intellectually disabled adults.”

The highlight of the trip came when they arrived at the Bethany House Trust children’s home where UniCollege held an egg race with the children and played with them in the park across the road.

“The current Mr & Miss UniCollege Zoë Lombard and Diogo Rente joined the SRC to hand out the Easter eggs as the community of Krugersdorp are close to their hearts,” Laricia said.

Cherise Loupos, President of the SRC added that, “We are glad that we can make this contribution to our community and hope to do so much more during 2022 to show our support to worthy causes in the area”.
