Police search at problematic Swaneville school

The Kagiso police recently visited a school in Swaneville where complaints have been laid about learners becoming violent with each other and teachers.

The Kagiso Police recently visited a school in Swaneville following complaints about learners becoming violent towards each other and their teachers.

In a statement from the Kagiso Police’s spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya he said they conducted searches at one of the more problematic schools in Swaneville.

He explained that Social Crime and Gender-based Violence officers from the Kagiso Police visited the Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela Mandela School. The teams were assisted by local community policing forum safety patrollers and the school’s governing body.

The search started at 08:00 on April 25 and lasted two hours.

The search followed complaints and concerns by the school’s management and teachers about safety at the school as some learners have been showing signs of violent behaviour and even attacked others on and outside the school premises,” Sibiya said.

He added that some learners also did not show respect towards their teachers or members of the school governing board.

Luckily they did not find any dangerous weapons or illegal substances during their search.
