Man killed when trying to help rape victim

She screamed for help and when the man tried to help her the three thugs attacked him.

The police recently arrested an 18-year-old following the rape of a woman and the murder of a 38-year-old man.

In a statement from Captain Solomon Sibiya from the Kagiso Police, he said the arrest was made on Saturday, May 7 at about 00:00 at the Madala hostel.

“Police received a complaint of rape near Madala hostel at the corner of Kagiso Avenue and Leeuw Street. They found the rape victim at the scene,” Sibiya said.

The victim told police that she was accosted by three men who demanded cash and her cell phone while they held her at gunpoint. She alleged that the men then dragged her to an open space near the hostel and took turns raping her.

She further alleged that while she was being raped, she spotted an unknown man walking past a few metres away.”

She screamed for help and when the man tried to help her the three thugs attacked him. She took police to the scene where she said the man was attacked and police found his body. He was covered in blood, had stab wounds and there was a rock next to him.

A manhunt was launched and police followed up on leads which later led to the arrest of one of the suspects.

The 18-year-old suspect who is a hostel dweller was charged with rape and murder. His accomplices were still at large when the statement was released. The Kagiso Police urged residents who know of their whereabouts to please contact them.
