Quarterly crime stats: Kagiso one of Gauteng’s top violence hotspots

Most murders in Gauteng were reported at Kagiso Police Station.

On Friday, June 3, Minister of Police Bheki Cele presented the statistics for crimes reported from January 1, 2022 to the end of March 2022.

The numbers told a disturbing story for Kagiso, as Kagiso Police Station repeatedly was listed among the 30 police stations countrywide where particular crimes were rife – in some cases in the number-one spot for Gauteng. For contact crimes it was 15th in the country and fifth in the province. For murder, it was ranked ninth in the country and number one in the province, with a shocking 87% increase in murders compared to the same period the previous year.
