A 31-year-old man was sentenced to five years imprisonment for committing housebreaking in 2014. The sentence will run concurrently with a previous sentence of six years.
Krugersdorp Police Station spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said in a statement that the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court had sentenced Neo William Tebang on June 13 after DNA evidence linked him to the crime that was committed on December 1, 2014 on Eland Street, Rant-en-Dal.
The victim told police he believed the incident happened between 07:00 and 16:00 while he was at work and there was no one else in the house.
A window was broken to get into and out of the house, and alcohol to the value of R2 000 was stolen. The damage to the house was estimated at R1 700, and a case of housebreaking and theft was opened.
Blood stains were obtained from the scene, but no one was arrested at the time.”
Through thorough investigation detective Sergeant Sebokwana Maenetja found that Tebang was already serving a six-year sentence at the Krugersdorp Correctional Services facility for another crime.
“The case was sent for trial and on June 13 the accused was found guilty and sentenced to five years imprisonment. The court ordered that the sentence be served concurrently with the sentence he is currently serving.”
Captain Sebonyane added that the Krugersdorp police acting station commander, Colonel Rebecca Masango was pleased with detective Maenetja’s hard work.
