In a statement Sibiya released on June 27, he wrote that on the evening in question at about 19:00, “Police received a complaint of the kidnapping of four female security guards at the Kagiso Cemetery. Two unknown suspects, one of them armed with a firearm, confronted the guards who were in the guard room and ordered them to open the door. The armed suspect kicked open the door and upon entering, he fired a shot into the floor.
“Four cell phones belonging to the guards were robbed at gunpoint. All four guards were ordered into the nearby bush where two of them were raped.
“The two suspects thereafter fled the scene on foot. All four victims sustained no visible injuries and were able to go back to their guard room and later called the police,” said Sibiya.
A case docket of kidnapping and rape was opened at the Kagiso police and an investigation is underway.
Sibiya has encouraged members of the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
