St Ursula’s leads food drive initiative
Learners and teachers united in a drive to help address food insecurity in local communities.
St Ursula’s School celebrated World Hunger Day by rallying support for the less fortunate, with learners and teachers donating food parcels containing non-perishable goods that will be distributed to communities in need.
World Hunger Day is commemorated annually, with the 2026 observance focusing on grassroots resilience, systemic change, and the dual crisis of global food insecurity.

According to the South African Human Rights Commission’s website, hunger is not inevitable but is created by systems that have the power to change. It notes that every day, people around the world are demonstrating that transformation is possible, including farmers regenerating their land, women leading local governments, youth launching climate-smart innovations, and communities organising for their own development.
St Ursula’s principal Ann Owgan said the school collected over 100 parcels, thanks to the school community.
She added that the initiative is not only a community effort but also reflects the school’s Catholic values of charity and unconditional love for God and one’s neighbour, which drive selfless acts to meet physical, spiritual and moral needs.
This reflects Christ’s love and sacrifice, from simple acts of kindness to supporting global aid initiatives such as Catholic Relief Services,” she concluded.
