More than 150 arrested in District over the weekend

This was aimed at nipping illegal activities in the bud and bringing down crime levels in the region.

Police in different parts of the West Rand District including Randfontein and Westonaria clamped down on criminals at the weekend between August 12 and 14, and arrested more than 150 suspects.

This was during their multidisciplinary integrated operations in partnership with other law-enforcement agencies aimed at nipping illegal activities in the bud and bringing down crime levels in the region.

Arrests were made for numerous offences such as assault, rape, dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal mining, kidnapping, theft, robbery and domestic violence.

The core focus was crime prevention, rural safety, roadblocks, searching for illegal goods being transported including drugs and firearms, stolen or hijacked vehicles and illegal mining.

West Rand District Police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana welcomed the successes and applauded the men and women in blue and other law-enforcement agencies who committed themselves to the operation, ensuring community safety and bringing perpetrators to book to face the full might of the law.
