Security officer gives chase, apprehends robber

Security officer catches up with criminal in Wren Street, Rant-en-Dal, hands him over to police.

A 35-year-old Munsieville man has recently been arrested after he was found with what is believed to be stolen property.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said in a police statement that at about 11:30 on Friday, January 13 they were called to the corner of Ramokoka and Magope Streets in Munsieville. The caller said a man had been apprehended by an armed response security officer after he presumably stole property.

He said when police arrived on the scene they found the security officer and the unknown man.

“The security informed the police that while he was patrolling at Wren Street, Rant-en-Dal, he saw a suspicious white Hyundai H100 and when the driver of the vehicle saw him, he drove off with a high speed.”

The officer gave chase and in Munsieville the Hyundai crashed into a palisade fence. Three people exited the vehicle and ran in different directions.

“Marcel Jonker, the security officer, managed to apprehend one of the suspects.”

They found a plasma TV, a microwave oven and various other items.

“The police were called and a case of possession of presumed stolen property was opened and the suspect was detained in the police’s custody as the suspect could not show any documents or gave any explanation of being in the possession of those properties.”

The man will be appearing in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

Krugersdorp Police Station Commander Brigadier Xaba applauded the security officers for a job well done and for working closely with the police.
