Kidnapping ends in car crash; two arrested, victim released

Two suspects who hijacked and kidnapped a man in Kempton Park were arrested in Lewisham after crashing their car when cops intercepted.

Police has confirmed that the crime scene in Lewisham earlier on Tuesday, January 31 was a case of a hijacking and kidnapping which occurred in the East Rand.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane explained that a 44-year-old man was hijacked on the R21 in Kempton Park at about 09:30 on Tuesday morning. He was hijacked while driving his Toyota Hilux bakkie and forced into the back of a white Hyundai Tucson.

Members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Kimberley were detached at Diepsloot and were driving towards Krugersdorp when they got information that a person was tied in the back of the vehicle. They got the information from the hawkers at the Pinehaven robots.”

He said the members then started following the vehicle and on Albertina Sisulu Road tried to pull over the vehicle by turning on their siren and blue lights. The suspects tried to speed off but collided with a white Opel Monza leaving four people injured. The injured were all taken to a nearest hospital for further treatment.

A 39-year-old and a 43-year-old have since been arrested and the kidnapped and hijacked victim released.

“The two were detained in police custody and will appear in a magistrate’s court soon.”
