Two arrested in Kagiso for kidnapping Uber driver

When the Uber driver got to his destination, two men pulled out firearms and made him get in the boot.

Two men who hijacked an Uber driver were arrested recently and charged with kidnapping and hijacking.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained the suspects aged 21 and 24 already appeared in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court.

“The victim told police that he is an Uber driver and at about 23:45 on Wednesday, April 19, he received a request from a local client for a local service. He then responded and drove from central Kagiso to the given address. Upon arrival at the client’s address, he noticed two couples waiting outside the yard. As the victim stopped next to them, four persons jumped into the vehicle.”

He drove them to Tsakani which was less than a kilometre from central Kagiso. When he reached the destination, the two men pulled out firearms and held him at gunpoint. They ordered him to get into the boot of his car and drove off into Rietvallei near Azaadville. They then later dumped him in an open space.

“The victim managed to walk back home to central Kagiso where he called and relayed the incident to his employer, the owner of the vehicle. The matter was reported to Kagiso Police and a docket of hijacking and kidnapping was opened. Police launched an investigation which led to a manhunt for the two armed suspects and their ultimate arrest.”

The suspects may face further charges as police investigate further.
