Masked gang robs family at gunpoint during home invasion
A family underwent a terrible ordeal at the hands of armed robbers when they were robbed of their personal belongings and savings.
The Kagiso Police want to warn residents to be cautious of their surroundings after three masked robbers targeted a family.
According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, they have become concerned after an incident that took place on July 25 wherein three masked perpetrators robbed a family of their belongings which included cellphones and laptops.
The robbery took place in Tskaane (Sector 4) at about 19:15.
Sibiya said the victim told them that she was busy bathing her child while her other child was in another room. She heard her child scream and when she went to check, she saw a masked armed intruder in their house. The trespasser held her at gunpoint and signaled her to remain quiet.
Two more perpetrators arrived and the victim’s cellphone was taken from her before she was ordered into a bedroom where the rest of her family was with their hands tied behind their backs. The robbers ransacked the house and took a 9kg gas cylinder, a gas stove, an undisclosed amount of cash, seven cellphones and four laptops.
The victims were also ordered to link their accounts to the robbers and their savings were transferred. After all of this happened the family was locked in the room and the robbers left.
Newly appointed Kagiso Police station commander Brigadier Nyelisani Mabatha wants the community to be more cautious about their surroundings at any given time and said perpetrators strike when you least expect it.
“They will use any opportunity they can get. We urge you to be vigilant at all times. Ensure that your gates and doors are always locked, whether in the morning or afternoon. Also sensitise your family members, no matter their age, to always keep your gates and doors locked. Join a neighbourhood watch group to monitor any suspicious-looking persons or vehicles and strange movements in your vicinity. Establish a WhatsApp group that is inclusive of everyone in your area and work closer with the police,” Mabatha advised.
“Working together with police has proved to be a better solution to decreasing levels of such crime,” Sibiya concluded.
Police are appealing to the public who has information about the perpetrators to call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000, 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065, 011 696 9067, or the Crime Stop line on 086000 10111. Alternatively, you can use the MySAPS App and choose to remain anonymous.
