Operation Shanela: Cops engage with more residents

More residents were reached, this time in Muldersdrift, as police continue to strengthen relations with the public.

Police have reached out to more community members as Operation Shanela continues on the West Rand.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the aim is to engage with members of the community who can play an integral role in crime prevention.

“It also strives to improve the relationship and trust between the public and police,” he said.

On March 7, residents were allowed to raise their concerns, frustrations, and suggestions about matters relating to the services rendered to them.

During the weekly multidisciplinary operation, the newly appointed Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni and his provincial management were accompanied by the West Rand District Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana visited the Video Centre informal settlement in Muldersdrift where they had a face-to-face engagement with residents.

They later proceeded to Munsieville where they further engaged and addressed residents of Mshenguville informal settlement about crime.

Sibiya concluded the areas were identified as crime hotspots due to the high level of crime ranging from theft, assault, substance abuse and murder.
