Man chops off colleague’s fingers during dispute

An argument took an unexpectedly violent turn when a man chopped off his colleague’s fingers.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Monday night, April 8, after he reportedly cut off his colleague’s fingers.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, this follows a heated argument about different beliefs.

“The victim alleged that he was with the colleague [also a business partner] at about 17:20 on April 5 when an argument ensued. The colleague then suggested they call a traditional healer to apply rituals to strengthen the performance of their business. The victim was against the idea, as he did not believe in traditional healers.

“The colleague then became furious, took a sharp object, and attacked the victim, chopping off all the victim’s fingers on his right hand. The victim further sustained open wounds to his head and ribs.”

Although the colleague had been on the run since the incident, the police managed to trace and corner him at his residence where he was eventually apprehended.

“He is facing a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and will appear in court soon.”
