Housebreakings and business burglaries rife in Krugersdorp
A local security company revealed crime is on the rise in Krugersdorp. They warn there were 13 incidents in September and 35 in October.
Mapogo A Mathamaga has reported the crime statistics for September and October and the difference between the two months showcases the dangers of the upcoming festive season.
According to operations manager Mac van Zyl, Randfontein had 23 crime cases in September and 31 crime cases in October. Krugersdorp saw 13 cases in September while in October, 35 cases were reported.
In September most cases were reported between the time of 06:00 and 12:00. October reports showed that crime happened more often between the times of 00:00 and 06:00.
“Most of the crime happened in the early hours of the day,” Van Zyl said.
He added during September there were 12 housebreakings, 13 business burglaries, one armed robbery, three cases of theft, five cases of damage to property and a case of rape reported.
October saw a much higher rate of reported crimes with a total of 15 housebreakings, 18 business burglaries, eight armed robberies, 23 cases of theft, nine cases of damage to property, two cases related to medical reports, two cases of murder and one rape case.
“Common theft is still very high since most criminals target water pipes, gate motors and lights. These things can be sold very quickly at the scrap metal dealers. Burglaries are a great concern and they keep increasing,” Van Zyl stated.
He further noted there was an increase of almost 50% in reported cases during October.
