ATM targeted in Muldersdrift: At least 12 suspects involved

An attempted ATM bombing in Muldersdrift led to a shootout between protection services and at least 12 suspects.

An ATM bombing suspect was arrested following a business break-in and attempted ATM bombing at a service station on the R114 in the Nooitgedacht vicinity last week.

According to Guardmax Protection Services director Jan Venter, they received a distressed call during the early hours of October 31.

“Units who arrived on the scene reported gunfire from fleeing suspects. This then led to a shootout between us and the suspects. One of our vehicles was hit with multiple rounds but fortunately, none of our members were injured. Returning to the service station to assess the scene, our members discovered one of the suspects was still trapped inside a shop at the service station, unable to flee. A lot of blood was also observed inside the shop and it is suspected that one of the fleeing suspects might have been seriously injured,” Venter mentioned.

“Upon the arrival of Muldersdrift police, the trapped suspect was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that 12 suspects were involved. The suspects had used forced entry to enter the shop and attempted to bomb the ATM, however, their attempt to access the ATM safe was unsuccessful. Unused explosives were recovered inside the shop,” he concluded.
