Armed robber shot and killed during hostage situation.
In the early hours of this morning, November 19, an armed robbery and hostage situation unfolded in Muldersdrift, resulting in a suspect being killed during a shootout.
According to Guardmax Protection Services director Jan Venter, their units responded to multiple panic alarms from properties in the Muldersdrift area.
“Upon arrival, our teams observed the suspects inside one of the cottages, holding two victims at gunpoint. Our guards surrounded the premises. Realising they were cornered, the suspects opened fire while attempting to flee,” said Venter.

He added that the guards returned fire, fatally wounding one suspect. Two others were injured but managed to escape on foot.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspects had forced entry into the property and held a man and his wife hostage while robbing them of valuable items. During the pursuit of the fleeing suspects, they continued to fire shots. Muldersdrift police were contacted and arrived at the scene. Two backpacks containing stolen goods were recovered, along with a handgun found on the deceased suspect. The items were handed over to the police as evidence. The investigation is now being handled by the police,” Venter concluded.
