Alleged robber attacked at crash scene; paramedic injured in chaos
After paramedics responded to an accident scene, a man who allegedly robbed the occupants of a vehicle involved in the accident was attacked by another man. In the process, a paramedic was also injured.
A man was attacked, and a Mogale Response Services (MRS) paramedic was injured following a two-vehicle crash on the R28 under the railway bridge towards Kagiso this past weekend.
MRS public relations officer Dale Mac Rae reported that the crash occurred on Sunday evening, November 24.
“Upon arrival, paramedics witnessed a man attacking another individual who had allegedly robbed people from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. The attacker fled the scene and attempted to hide in the ambulance. Unfortunately, during the commotion, a paramedic was struck with a metal object while trying to evade the attack. The paramedic sustained hand injuries and was transported to the hospital,” Mac Rae explained.
She emphasised that first responders already face significant challenges when attending emergencies and being subjected to attacks should never be one of them. Such incidents not only endanger the lives of emergency personnel but also hinder their ability to assist in life-threatening situations.
“This behaviour is unacceptable and is strongly condemned by MRS and all emergency services. We urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the police immediately,” Mac Rae added.
