Vigilance leads to three arrests, illegal firearm seizure

Three were arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm due to the vigilance of security services.

Three men were arrested and an illegal firearm was confiscated in Muldersdrift.

Guardmax Protection Services director Jan Venter explained that during the early hours of this morning, December 5, while patrolling the area, their guards spotted a suspicious Toyota Corolla (with five men inside) on Pelindaba Road (R512). When they approached the car, the driver sped off leading to a pursuit.

Ammunition inside the magazine of the illegal firearm.

“Eventually, two suspects fled the vehicle on foot, leaving three inside. Upon inspection, we discovered a firearm, a backpack containing gloves, crowbars, a gas bottle, two vehicle wheels and several other small items believed to be stolen property. One of the fleeing suspects was then described as wearing grey trousers and blue overalls, matching the description of a suspect involved in an earlier attempted break-in in Ashanti Road, Lanseria,” Venter said.

He added police arrived on the scene for further investigation and confirmed the firearm was stolen.

“The vehicle was also impounded as it came from Botswana and had tampering on the VIN. The three men were arrested,” Venter concluded.
