Police accused of assaulting disabled man: IPID investigating
A man claims to have been physically harmed by the very people who vow to protect and serve.
Law enforcement have taken an oath to combat crime, maintain public order, protect and secure the people and their property as well as uphold and enforce the law. However, Andries Fourie claims to have been physically harmed by the very people who vow to protect and serve.
Fourie (53) has opened a case of assault against officers who he said have been harassing him in the privacy of his own home.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Lizzy Suping confirmed an investigation is underway against the police and feedback will be given with regards to the case.
According to Fourie, the harassment and physical abuse have been happening for over a year.
”I have opened several cases with the police and filed complaints against them, however, I never seem to get anywhere.”

Fourie told the News he has also filed multiple protection orders against his tormentors yet they persist in harassing him at every chance they get.
Witness Wayne Zietsman expressed how the alleged suspects have been arrested many times but they have been released on bail.
”In our recent court appearance, it was confirmed at the Magistrate’s Court that the people who harassed and assaulted Andries had prior criminal records before they met him, however, instead of assisting him we never seem to get any clarity or understanding from the court or the police. It’s at a point where we think foul play such as bribery is involved. The police also assaulted and arrested him for no reason.”
According to Fourie, two officers who were meant to help him on this case have assaulted him instead of helping as he recounts when they arrested him over an alleged misdemeanour.

”I was walking to the shops one evening and I was accused of a physical altercation I was not involved in. The police would follow me home and harass me even though it was clear I was incapable of doing such. I am 53 years old with no arms so how can I do something?”
The News also approached Krugersdorp Police Station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba for comment, however, no feedback was given at the time of print. It will be published once received.
