260 arrested for crimes committed against women and children
Cops arrested hundreds of suspects, including illegal miners and undocumented immigrants, not to mention 260 of them committed crimes against women and children.
Police, along with other law enforcement, tightened their grip on criminal activities, following another successful multi-disciplinary Operation Shanela.

According to Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, 20 undocumented foreigners were arrested in the Soul City informal settlement alone.
He added that four other suspects were arrested for illegal mining, with one of the suspects being in possession of explosives. A liquor outlet was also closed down.


In addition, a vehicle that was hijacked in Soweto was also recovered at Green Hostel in Kagiso.
“The operation is conducted in three phases, an overnight raid carried out by detectives which has resulted in the arrest of 618 wanted suspects for various crimes in both Soweto and the West Rand of which 260 are crimes committed against women and children, a multidisciplinary roadblock and compliance inspections at liquor outlets,” Mthombeni said.
