Man faces charges for brazen assault on police officer

A man is in hot water with the law and faces three charges following the assault of a police officer in Kagiso.

Police confirmed that a 47-year-old man was arrested and charged with common assault, crimen injuria (the unlawful and intentional impairment of another person’s dignity or privacy) and defeating the ends of justice.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the incident occurred on May 5 when police operated in the Soul City Informal Settlement in Kagiso.

Officers were approached by the suspect, who interfered with the police’s duties. The suspect allegedly insulted and assaulted a police officer,” Masondo said.

The suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on May 7.
