VIDEO: Premier hits the streets with police presence felt across Mogale
Motorists and residents were met with a strong law enforcement presence across Mogale City as provincial leaders launched a high-impact operation to tackle crime and service delivery challenges head-on.
Krugersdorp residents spotted an increase in law enforcement presence on July 10 as Gauteng’s integrated service delivery operation officially rolled out, aiming to address both crime and municipal service backlogs.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Provincial Government, Vuyo Mhaga, said this operation was conducted in collaboration with police, metropolitan municipal police departments, local and district municipalities.

“This is part of the provincial government’s plan to improve services and make communities safer by working with multiple agencies to fight crime, increase police presence, share information and use new technology for crime prevention.”

Besides roadblocks, he concluded that stakeholders are also engaging with community members and responding to service delivery issues, including infrastructure issues, service delivery backlogs, water and sanitation, electricity, waste removal and road maintenance.

For example, in Rietvallei Ext 2 and 3 (7th Street), the municipality is currently on-site where a faulty transformer was replaced and the electricity supply restored.
“We appreciate residents’ patience as work continues to ensure safer, more reliable power for our communities,” said Mogale City Executive Mayor Lucky Sele.

The total number of arrests made during the roadblocks is unknown at this stage, as authorities are still conducting operations. However, statistics will be published when received. When the Krugersdorp News visited one roadblock on Albertina Sisulu Road in Lewisham, two suspected copper cable thieves were arrested.

Gauteng Provincial Government posted a video of Premier Panyaza Lesufi speaking to motorists.
