West Rand police nab 11 in weekend crackdown, 446 arrested across Gauteng

Police in the West Rand made 11 arrests as part of a province-wide crackdown that saw 446 suspects detained.

Law enforcement officers in the West Rand District Municipality made 11 arrests for cases including rape, trespassing, housebreaking, theft and common assault.

According to Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson, Sello Maremane, operations targeted Hekpoort, Muldersdrift, Kagiso, Fochville and Westonaria, with 1 097 people and 377 vehicles searched.

He added these arrests form part of larger provincial operations, including High Density Operations and Operation Shanela, which took place from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14. Across Gauteng, a total of 446 suspects were arrested, including 131 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In Johannesburg, 57 suspects were arrested for offences such as possession of drugs, contravention of the immigration act, public drinking, and possession of suspected stolen goods.

Maremane emphasised that these coordinated efforts show the commitment of the Gauteng Traffic Police, SAPS, Metro Police Departments, and Gauteng Traffic Wardens to combat crime and ensure community safety.
