Holiday crackdown: MCLM flags major road safety concerns
With 209 vehicles stopped and multiple infringements recorded, MCLM warns motorists to get road-ready as holiday traffic picks up.
As holiday traffic begin to surge, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has released the results of its latest Safer City, Arrive Alive roadblock held near the Krugersdorp Game Reserve on December 5.
According to MCLM senior communication practitioner Tendani Shavhani, the seven-hour operation took place along a major route linking Gauteng and the North West and involved police, Public Safety officers, as well as Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens.
“While officers demonstrated a strong enforcement presence on the ground, the roadblock results showed worrying trends and a lack of readiness among some road users ahead of the holiday period,” she said.
