Accused in Steven Theron pub shooting released on bail, court date set for May
The family of Steven Theron says they are still searching for answers more than a year after he was fatally shot at a Lewisham pub.
Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, confirmed that the pub owner accused of fatally shooting Steven Theron has been released on bail and is expected to appear in court again on May 13.
Theron was shot in February last year following a physical altercation at a pub in Lewisham while out with friends.
According to his mother, Lorraine Theron, the family is still searching for answers more than a year after his death.
Krugersdorp Police Station commander Happy Xaba previously confirmed that the shooting resulted from a physical altercation between Theron and the pub owner, who was arrested at the time. A murder case is under investigation.
Lorraine said the case has been postponed several times due to outstanding reports, leaving the family frustrated.
“Every month, there has been a postponement because of outstanding reports. At one stage, my husband and I even had to sort out the post-mortem with the doctor at the mortuary ourselves,” she said.

She added that the day before his death, Theron had planned to move to Cape Town to be closer to his daughter, who has since been struggling emotionally and at school.
The family also says they have had little communication from authorities during the court process.
Despite the pain, Lorraine said they remember Steven as someone loved by many.
“All his friends loved Steven and respected him. We miss our son more than people can imagine. We just want justice,” she said.
