Flying Squad makes 20 arrests in six-day crime blitz
The West Rand Flying Squad arrested multiple suspects, confiscated large quantities of drugs and an unlicensed firearm while executing warrants linked to assault and murder.
The West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) arrested 20 suspects during a six-day crime blitz between May 13 and 18, with offences ranging from drug dealing and illegal firearm possession to outstanding warrants for assault and murder.
According to WRFS spokesperson Karen du Plessis, officers confiscated large quantities of tik, Mandrax, cat and nyaope during operations conducted across several areas on the West Rand and East Rand.
Among the biggest breakthroughs was the arrest of a suspect in West Village on May 18 after police allegedly discovered 272 grams of tik valued at nearly R84 000. Earlier the same day, another suspect was arrested in the Krugersdorp CBD after officers allegedly found 44 grams of tik worth more than R13 000.
Several other suspects were arrested in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, Noordheuwel, Soul City, Actonville and Boksburg North for allegedly dealing in or possessing drugs, including tik, cat, crack cocaine and Mandrax tablets.

Police also arrested a suspect in Kagiso on May 16 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In addition to the drug-related arrests, officers executed outstanding warrants in Kagiso and Westonaria linked to assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and murder.
Du Plessis said the arrests formed part of ongoing operations aimed at combating serious and violent crime in the district.
