West Rand K9s sniff out millions worth of drugs

Recent operations by the West Rand K9 Unit resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of crystal meth, cocaine, mandrax and cat worth millions.

The West Rand K9 Unit recently made several arrests and seized drugs worth millions of rand during operations across Gauteng.

West Rand K9 Unit spokesperson Karen du Plessis said officers received information about a foreign national allegedly involved in drug dealing in Randfontein, leading to his arrest for possession of narcotics.

Police confiscated 27g of crystal meth, 17 mandrax tablets, 8g of cocaine and 11g of cat, with an estimated street value of R15 000.

Du Plessis added that officers also received information on May 31 about a man allegedly involved in drug dealing in Diepsloot.

“The K9 Unit and West Rand TRT executed an operation, where they found a suspect, who permitted a search of the premises.

They found a black plastic bag hidden behind the bed, with around 10kg of Crystal Meth,” she explained.

She concluded that the drugs have an estimated street value of around R3m.
