Man detained after alleged pool cue attack leaves another dead
A man was found dead in his rented room after an investigation allegedly linked his death to an earlier tavern altercation, leading to a suspect being detained.
A man was found dead in a rented room in the Lanseria area on July 26, with an initial investigation allegedly linking his death to an earlier altercation at a nearby tavern.
According to Guardmax Protection Services sales manager Gerrie van Rooyen, the company responded after receiving reports of a body at the property.
“It was sadly confirmed that the person was indeed deceased. The investigation took a different direction after it was established that two individuals had brought the deceased home earlier that night while he was still alive,” Van Rooyen said.

The two individuals told investigators they had taken the man home after he had allegedly been involved in an altercation at a nearby tavern and that he was still alive and breathing when they left him.
Based on the information gathered, investigators identified a suspect who allegedly assaulted the deceased with a pool cue during the altercation, Van Rooyen alleged.
Van Rooyen said officers were initially unable to locate the suspect but continued searching the area.
The suspect was later found and allegedly admitted to assaulting the deceased. Van Rooyen said the suspect was detained by Guardmax officers and handed over to police for further investigation.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
