Youth and older voters make their mark at Monnas
The Hoërskool Monument High School voting station is moving quickly, with first-time and long-time voters sharing why they cast their ballots.
The Krugersdorp News is at the Hoërskool Monument High School voting station, where voters are leaving with smiles on their faces.
At about 09:23, there was virtually no queue, with voters taking no longer than 10 minutes to cast their ballots.
But what motivates first-time voters compared with those who have been voting for years?

First-time voter Christiaan Morton said he had expected the voting process to be more complicated.
“For first-time voters, I think everyone has their own opinion on which political party should govern, and I voted so the party has a better chance of winning the election. The youth should vote to continue to make the country a better place,” he said.
Meanwhile, long-time voter Wynand Moolman, who has been voting since he was 18, believes older generations approach voting as a responsibility and take pride in making a difference.
“I think both generations have a motive to vote: Out of love for South Africa,” he said.
Moolman added that voting was important because it gave people an opportunity to make a difference.
He also remarked that everyone he had seen leaving the voting station had a smile on their face.
