MCLM embarks on indigent services campaign

Mogale City has started their ‘Know your City’ campaign and want to educate residents on the services that are available to them.

The Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) Indigent office, which is under the control of the Community Development Services Department, has embarked on this campaign. The ongoing campaign enables the community to have access to information about the indigent programmes and general services provided by the municipality.

With this campaign they want to encourage qualifying households to apply for indigent benefits and rates relief.

A statement from the municipality’s Ziyanda Njoli, said that this was being done in line with the government’s 2001 adopted policy which makes provisions for free basic services to poorer households.

“Under this policy, municipalities were tasked to identify indigent households that would receive services – such as water and electricity – for free or at substantially subsidised rates,” said the statement.

The campaign will be hosted in different areas of the city. Information will be given by means of meeting with residents, pop-up centres, radio interviews and social media in order to eliminate unrealistic expectations. They will inform residents of the terms for qualifying for subsidy and service delivery in general.

The campaign will be running in Matshelapat, Ward 30, Tarlton on November 12 and 13 from 09:00 until 14:00.
