Krugersdorp water might run out again

Residents are warned that due to an issue with Rand Water, the taps may be running dry again soon.

A message from councillor Mark Trump is doing the rounds asking the community to please use water sparingly.

This comes after a letter released by Rand Water on Wednesday, April 12 stated that the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant had emergency repair work done to the B8 pipeline leak. The repair work was planned for eight hours.

“While in a process of doing isolations and scouring; they experienced water ingress into Engine Room 3 which supplies Eikenhof and Mapleton Booster Stations. The incident has resulted in the reduction to Booster Stations’ pumping.”

The booster station pumping for Mapleton was reduced to 10 per cent and Eikenhof 67 per cent.

“This flooding affected a number of electrical equipment, which are being worked on to prepare for the return to service. It is, however, not known of when the engine room will be brought back. Customers will be kept informed as soon as it is known.”

This incident will, however, result in the depletion of all Rand Water Reservoirs and the following areas will be affected:
• Meredale 1 and 2,
• Waterval 1 and 2,
• Weltevreden,
• Roodepoort,
• Witpoortjie 1 and 2,
• Krugersdorp 1, 2 and 3
• Rustenburg,
• Brakpan 1 and 3,
• Vlakfontein 1 and 2,
• Bronberge,
• Wildebeesfontein 1, 2 and 3

In the message, Trump asked that the community to use water sparingly and make provisions. He added that supply has now been reduced by more than 50 per cent.
