Cholera outbreak: Municipality reassures residents their water is safe to drink
'Water in all areas is of the highest quality and there are no substances in the water that will cause illnesses or environmental hazards' – Mogale City Local Municipality.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) would like to reassure residents that water supplied by the municipality is safe to drink.
For the past few weeks, there have been confirmed reports of a cholera outbreak especially in Hammanskraal (City of Tshwane) and in the Free State.

According to Adrian Maytom, a member of the MCLM watchdog committee, the municipality is always making sure that water in all areas is of the highest quality and that there are no substances in the water that will cause illnesses or environmental hazards.
Our drinking water undergoes extensive treatment processes at Rand Water’s treatment plants and the municipality conducts quality monitoring in all water storages and reservoirs and water tankers used to supply water to rural settlements,” said Maytom.
The municipality also ensures citizens that their water monitoring programme prioritises schools, churches, hospitals and shopping centres as per South African National Standards 241 for safe drinking water requirements.
The municipality also encourages residents to use water wisely and to not be wasteful.
