Kagiso Ward 15 community finally has their wish granted
Residents of Ward 15 in Kagiso finally receive their long-awaited transformer.
The residents of Ward 15 in Kagiso finally have their prayers answered after a two-year battle to have their electricity restored.
On 13 June Eskom and workers of Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) made their way to Ainsile and Leeuw Streets, Kagiso to see a new transformer being installed and have their electricity restored after two years of frustrations.

Since August 2021, the community of Ward 15 has been struggling with no electricity as a result of many incidents of illegal connections, electricity-related theft, meter bypassing, tampering, vandalism and theft. Community leaders hoped to consult with Eskom and MCLM to find a solution after the transformer had to be replaced.
A petition was set up by the residents to address the issue and pushed to get a new transformer installed. The petition had over 60 signatures and was sent to the municipality and Eskom. The residents finally obtained a response after several difficulties such as the Covid-19 lockdowns prohibiting them from engaging with the municipality, as well as the high number of illicit electrical connections and the ever-increasing price of electricity without ever having the services.

On 9 February the community, the municipality along with Eskom representatives held a meeting at Centenary Hall in the CBD, where the residents were promised that they would receive a new transformer and that their electricity would be finally restored.
After months of waiting, Eskom finally installed the transformer and many residents had reasons to smile again.
Resident Tebogo Banda was very happy to see Eskom installing the transformer.
“It’s been long overdue, we are happy that we will have the lights on soon,” said Banda.
