Munsieville housing project connected to the grid

An electrification switch-on ceremony for 70 units which are part of the Munsieville Housing Project took place recently.

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements in collaboration with the Housing Development Agency and Mogale City Human Settlements continues to improve the living conditions of residents and build sustainable communities through affordable housing projects.

Energy Services is also equally keeping up with the electricity demand.

The Munsieville Ext 9 Housing Development is the latest to see improvements when it comes to the delivery of electricity. Both household connections and bulk networks were funded by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) in line with the Integrated National Electrification Programme.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) is pleased to inform residents that 70 housing units, which were completed and occupied in December, are set to be completely electrified and will be properly billed thus supporting the township economy. The electrification switch-on ceremony for the 70 units was held last week led by Executive Mayor Danny Thupane, Energy Services officials, and DMRE representatives.

According to Mogale City communication officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the ceremony was held by Energy Services manager Given Masuku who appealed to members of the community to look after electricity infrastructure as cable theft and vandalism are on the rise during load-shedding.

“The repair and replacement of vandalised infrastructure cost the municipality and ratepayers millions of rands,” he said.

He further cautioned against illegal connections which undermines the municipality’s ability to provide safe and reliable electricity to all residents in addition to substantial revenue loss for the municipality.

“So far, 70 housing units have been electrified and allocated as part of Phase 1 of the project. Another 86 units are still under construction and will soon be allocated to conclude Phase 2 while 75 units will be constructed in the third and final phase of the project. This phased housing development project is expected to be completed in March 2025.”
