Richmond Street finally clean

Richmond Street was cleaned up over the long weekend by the community.

On Women’s Day, the DA Ward 20 team, in partnership with Friends of Emergency Services (FES) and AfriForum Krugersdorp, organised a successful community cleanup initiative in Richmond Street.

According to ward councillor Mark Trump, the event aimed to address the pressing issue of illegal dumping in the area, which had been neglected for months.

Sonja Naudé and Peter Vilankula clean the streets.

“The cleanup effort focused on removing hazardous waste, including needles, diapers, used condoms and broken glass bottles that posed a significant risk to the safety and well-being of children playing in the street. Our collective efforts made a significant impact, restoring the area to a safer and more pleasant environment,” Trump said.

He added that illegal dumping is a huge issue in Ward 20, and it’s essential that the community works together to protect the environment and maintain clean and safe open spaces for all to enjoy.

Mitch McRae and Charl Oosthuizen clean the sidewalk.

“The event highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in addressing environmental issues and holding those responsible for illegal dumping accountable. We will continue to work together to address this issue and promote a cleaner, safer environment for all,” Trump said.

He concluded by urging the community to report any transgressors to the authorities, who can face fines of up to R10 000.
