Mogale library wins tech innovation award

Mogale City's Lusaka Library wins Community Library of the Year.

Mogale City’s Lusaka Library is a proud recipient of the LIASA – Ndebe Public/ Community Library of the Year 2024 award.

The top accolade was presented at the Library and Information Association of South Africa’s (LIASA) annual conference held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the award category was primarily for rural or peri-urban-based libraries that, in the last 24 months, have taken steps in the adoption of technological innovation. This included aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution within the Library and Information Service community.

Tania Kgoale accepts the award.

The library was nominated based on its outstanding usage of X-boxes by children who visit the library.

The library is located in Kagiso and was up against five other public libraries from various provinces in this tightly contested category.

All five finalists were awarded certificates of participation while Lusaka Library received a certificate, trophy and price valued at R20 000 sponsored by Ndende Technologies.

The municipality remains proud of its Library Services’ continuous strides in various fields including collaborative work and partnerships with institutions such as Unisa, and the archiving of major historical events such as the famous Krugersdorp tunnel robbery among others.
