Municipality debunks ‘red slip’ message doing the rounds

Mogale confirms 'red slips' providing rules and limitations about refuse removal are unofficial.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) confirmed that the so-called ‘red slip’ message doing the rounds is not officially authorised.

This comes after numerous residents in town received the ‘red slip’ stating how residents are limited when it comes to their refuse removal. Some of the rules include weight limits and no tree branches being allowed.

The manager for Integrated Waste Management at MCLM, Dominic Nyokana, has since revealed and acknowledged that the slips hastily distributed were not finalised nor approved for official use.

“Distribution has been paused and the stickers are being reviewed to ensure accuracy and proper branding. Once finalised, a formal communication will be issued to provide clarity,” he explained.

In November 2024, MCLM gave guidelines on how to properly dispose of your refuse to avoid it not being collected.

MCLM communications officer, Refilwe Mahlangu said at the time that waste collection teams will not collect any refuse bags or any other items that are not inside wheelie bins.

“Residents and businesses that require the removal of domestic refuse bags which must be transparent as per waste management policy, must ahead of time contact waste management on 011 951 2102/ 10 for an arrangement. This, however, will have cost implications,” she concluded.
