Large parts of Krugersdorp to be hit by water disruptions

Several areas across the West Rand (mostly in Krugersdorp) will be experiencing either water supply problems or low water pressure.

Many parts of Krugersdorp and its surroundings will be experiencing water disruptions due to a power failure.

In a statement issued by Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Water Services Department, this is due to a power failure at the Emfuleni substation, which supplies power to the Rand Water Vereeniging Treatment Works.

“As a result, the Eikenhof pumping station, which supplies water to the Mogale City reservoirs is operating at a reduced capacity and this stage, we are unable to provide an estimated restoration time. Feedback from Rand Water indicates that the Emfuleni team is working to resolve the failure,” the statement read.

The following areas may be affected by shortages or low water pressure:

Kagiso, Kagiso Ext 12 and 13, Munsieville, Featherbrooke, Ruimsig, Rangeview, Swanieville, Azaadville, Krugersdorp West, Delporton, Tarlton, West Village, Pine Haven, Monument, Kenmare, Factoria, Lewisham, Luipaardsvlei and possibly surrounding areas.

Kagiso, for example, is already impacted, as the supplying reservoir has been switched off due to no water availability. Meanwhile, reservoirs in other areas will continue to supply water until the stored capacity is depleted if required.

The municipality thus urges the community to use water sparingly, where tankers will also be deployed to the most affected areas.
