Mogale City provides update on water outage

After a major pipe burst in Soweto earlier this week that was repaired by Rand Water, some reservoirs in the high-lying areas of Krugersdorp cannot fill up quickly enough.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu explained that reservoirs with levels at 0% in high-lying areas are not being pumped into, as the lower lying reservoirs needs to surpass 30% capacity, in order to not damage the pumps.

“Think of it as a JoJo tank on a building. The lower levels of the building will get water first, before the top levels will have access to water,” she simplified.

She added that the following reservoirs are currently at 0%:

* Munsieville reservoir
* Kagiso 13 reservoir
* Kenmare reservoir
* Factoria reservoir

She concluded to plead with residents who have water, to use it sparingly, to allow the reservoirs to rise to the required levels.

The Krugersdorp News requested feedback whether water tankers will be made available to the high lying areas, however none was forthcoming from Mahlangu.
