Debt relief plan launched to help residents settle overdue bills
Krugersdorp residents can now clear overdue bills without added pressure – see how to qualify for this debt relief programme.
Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) credit control teams are intensifying their operation to collect as much debt as possible; however, they have payment options for you.
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said they understand that many households and businesses are feeling the pinch of the country’s tough economic climate, and if you are unable to pay your account in full, you do not have to wait for enforcement.
“Speak to us and make arrangements to avoid further interest and disconnection,” said Mahlangu.
She added, residents need to know the following:
• Interest is charged on all overdue accounts and calculated based on the national interest rate and the length of the delay
• Deposit amounts are calculated based on your household or business income, making the plan more affordable for you
• The outstanding balance is then paid off in manageable instalments over an agreed period
• Settle your full debt within 12 months, and you’ll qualify for a 100% interest write-off after full settlement
• Can’t afford a deposit right now? If you talk to them, special arrangements can be made for those in genuine financial difficulty
• Have the funds to pay your debt in full? They will write off the interest immediately upon settlement – no payment plan needed
She said not to wait for enforcement, and to visit their credit control offices at Town Hall to make a payment plan.
