Valve failure disrupts water supply in Witpoortjie and Kagiso

Residents are expected to face water disruptions after a valve failure at the Witpoortjie Reservoir, with repairs only set to be completed later tonight.

Residents in Kagiso and Witpoortjie surrounding area are facing low water pressure to a possible complete supply outage following a valve failure at the Witpoortjie Reservoir.

According to the Mogale City Local Municipality, the incident occurred after a malfunction at the reservoir interrupted the inflow of water.

“The inlet valve now requires urgent replacement before normal supply can be restored to both the Witpoortjie system and the pipeline feeding the Kagiso Reservoir,” the statement from Mogale reads.

Bulk water provider Rand Water has dispatched technicians to attend to the fault, with repair work already underway. Repairs are expected to be completed by 22:00 on April 21, after which the water supply should begin to stabilise.

In the meantime, the Kagiso Reservoir is expected to experience low pressure or no supply, particularly during peak hours. While officials say the interruption should be temporary, contingency plans are in place. Water tankers will be deployed if shortages become critical, with distribution points to be communicated through ward councillors.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly where possible and remain patient as teams work to restore normal supply.
