Task team created to deal with homelessness and substance abuse
Discussions regarding a task team to reduce the rate of homelessness and substance abuse in Mogale City are underway.
Feedback was given on the investigation that was launched in June as to how homelessness and substance abuse in Mogale City can be addressed.
The feedback was given during a meeting held this week Tuesday, November 15 and it was decided that a task team would be formulated.
Prior to this meeting, several other meetings had taken place. This team is expected to focus on integrating a holistic approach in addressing homelessness, substance abuse and mental illnesses.
The office of the Executive Mayor Councillor Tyrone Gray, the Department of Community Services, Economic Development, Public Works and Roads as well as Finance, met with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and Civil Society that focused on homelessness and substance abuse during the meeting.
“The task team will first look at reviewing the policy framework addressing these key issues, draft terms of reference that will oversee the implementation of resolutions taken in the meeting and drafting an action plan that will guide how implementation of these resolutions will be done,” said the Mayoral Spokesperson Phemelo Motoma.
There are more discussions expected to take place regarding the homelessness and substance abuse that remain an issue in Mogale City. Mayor Gray has committed to finding solutions together with various stakeholders to lower the increase of homelessness, fight crime and create a conducive setting for the economy to grow.
