Please think twice about giving a pet as a Christmas present. Unfortunately, many pets are surrendered to shelters after receiving them as Christmas gifts. The gift recipient may not be ready to make the commitment to owning a pet, which unfortunately increases the risk of abandonment.
Just keep in mind that, while the holidays are all about spreading love and good cheer, unexpected gifts are always a risk. Because everyone has different tastes and lifestyles, giving pets to someone should only be done if the recipient is willing to commit to and care for them as they would a child or younger sibling beforehand. If they are, then assisting them in adopting a new dog or cat may be the best Christmas gift they could ever receive. Newspapers, blankets, cat food in tins, dog food in tins, cat dry food, dog dry food, or monetary donations are greatly appreciated because they must also service and repair vehicles, animal ambulances, pay salaries, and cover operating expenses, among other things.
