Unidentified chemical incident disrupts IDP roadshow
The IDP roadshow came to a stop after an unidentified chemical incident disrupted proceedings.
An Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Roadshow for Ward 7 was abruptly disrupted after an unidentified chemical was released by an unknown source which caused irritation to the attendees’ throats and resulted in some experiencing headaches.
This happened just as the IDP progress for Ward 7 was to be presented in Kagiso at the Faith Community Sanctuary (FCS) Church on November 14 where Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) officials along with the mayoral team were in attendance.
The goal of the roadshow is to distribute the planning and budgeting to a ward level and ensure that all wards are provided for in the IDP and municipal budget.
“Such acts [unidentified chemical disruptions] are rejected as this puts the lives of the community at risk,” read a statement issued by the Executive Mayoral Spokesperson Phemelo Motoma.
The IDP kicked off on October 19 with sector meetings and continued to the wards until November 1. Unorganised planning has resulted in some wards not receiving a fair share of projects and budget for either social or economic projects, this has caused the current administration to move away from unsystematic planning to a ward-based planning.
This was done with careful consideration of resources that are currently available but to also ensure that the mayoral team gathered as many inputs, suggestions and recommendations as possible by the community within the different wards that will be included in the next IDP cycle of 2023/24 – 2025/26.
“We urge the community to create a conducive environment for the IDP roadshow and engagements to take place,” said Motoma. Motoma further explained that “There is an investigation is underway, it’s a sensitive matter, but we are calling for anyone who has more information to come forward to help the investigation process”.
