Upskilling and empowering the youth
More than 80 learners completed their studies through the Narysec youth skills development and employment programme.
Eighty-eight learners recently completed their studies through the National Rural Youth Service Corps (Narysec) youth skills development and employment programme.
The learners received their certificates from Mogale City’s Executive Mayor Councillor Tyrone Gray at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways on Wednesday, November 23.
A statement from the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) said these learners were recruited from various rural communities. These included Tarlton, Muldersdrift, Magaliesburg, Swaneville, Munsieville and Kagiso.
“These learners were all placed at Flavius Mareka TVET College and Matjhabeng Traffic College for the duration of the training,” said the statement.
While speaking at the ceremony, the mayor said how the municipality will continue to seek opportunities which will upskill and empower the youth.
“As government we must move away from working in silos but promote partnerships and the spirit of working together to serve the community we are appointed to serve,” he said.
Among the graduates were traffic officers who successfully completed their qualifications and students in Real Estate. The municipality and other stakeholders partnered to ensure that government continues to fight against poverty and unemployment by offering the opportunities to acquire skills that will help young people find employment.
The Narysec programme was established in September 2010 with the main focus on enabling rural youth to become economically active and contribute towards the upliftment of their communities.
