Bringing the Christmas spirit to 900 children
Krugersdorp's streets were taken over by a festively decorated truck filled with sweet packets.
The Krugersdorp Club distributes sweet packets to Krugersdorp children every year during their Cappy Sweets Run, and in 2022 they distributed a record-breaking 900 sweet packets in the spirit of Christmas.

On Friday, December 9, a festively decorated truck loaded with sweet packets hit the streets.

The first stop was at Kleinvallei which was followed by stops at the West Rand Disability Centre, the Sakkie Nel Library, Nellie Street and Appel Park.
Riaan Steenkamp, who played Santa for the day and helped organise the event with Johnny Swanepoel, explained that the sweets run is something they do every year. Last year, they distributed 600 sweet packets but upped that to 900 this year. He explained that this tradition started four years ago when a member of the club, Captain Rothman, used to distribute sweets on Christmas day. That is why it is called the Cappy Sweets Run.

Through donations from members of the club and friends of the club they were able to pack the sweet packets. They were also joined by Colonel Heila Nieuwoudt from the Gauteng Child Protection Unit.

The team also held a Christmas breakfast and gave gifts to the elderly the week before, something they also try to do every year.
While driving through Krugersdorp they were supported by Mogale City Local Municipality’s Public Safety and escorted by the West Rand District Fire Services, Sector 5 Community Policing Forum, Krugersdorp police, MSR Security, Dowry Security and MegaForce Brotherhood West Rand Motorcycle.
