Road rage leads to attempted murder charge

Two people were arrested after a late night road rage incident during the festive season almost turned deadly.

We all get angry at other drivers, but two people recently went too far when they followed and assaulted a woman with a firearm.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya stated that the two people were arrested on Friday, December 23. The incident took place next to a local tavern in Kagiso extension 8 at about 21:45.

The victim told police that the suspects’ vehicle had been parked in front of hers. When the suspects decided to leave, their vehicle reversed towards the victim’s vehicle and she hooted to alert them.

“The suspects thereafter drove off and stopped around the corner a few metres from where the victim’s vehicle was parked and allegedly obstructed her from driving past,” explained Sibiya.

When she then tried to drive past the suspects blocked her way and an argument ensued. This led to the suspects attacking the victim.

“She sustained bruises after she was assaulted with a firearm bud,” said Captain Sibiya.

After the incident was reported to the Kagiso Police, a manhunt was launched for the two suspects who was driving a Mercedes Benz. They were later apprehended and arrested.

“It is unfortunate that such an incident unfolded after a national outcry about the violence directed at defenseless women and children. The law will take its course and ensure a drastic elimination of such behaviour,” said Colonel Mabuso of the Kagiso Police.

The two suspects, aged 30 and 40, already briefly appeared in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court and is facing charges of attempted murder.
