Tannie Lottie Turns 100

Turning 100 not only allows you to reflect on your life and decisions, but it also allows you to live with the knowledge that you have lived a complete century.

Turning 100 not only allows you to reflect on your life and decisions, but it also allows you to live with the knowledge that you have lived a complete century.

On Wednesday, January 18, Tannie Lottie Kruger from the Luipaardsvlei Home for the Aged turned 100 years old, though she does not look a day over 70.

Surrounded by the residents who also reside at the home, it was clear that she had won their hearts and smiles. Nadia de Jager who is a manager at the Home explains that not only is Tannie Lottie a sweet woman, she is also like a mom to her as well. She also explains that it is quite difficult buying someone who is turning 100 a gift, “What do you buy for someone turning 100?” she asks with a chuckle.

Lottie’s son, Koos Kruger tells the News that his mom dedicated her life to her children, “She always kept us in check and took care of us, from knitting our clothes to cooking the most amazing food, even her baking was out of this world,” he says, “I remember when she was 83; she painted the entire home because she wanted to keep busy,” he explained.

According to Koos, his mother Tannie Lottie has always been a busy bee, and you would always find her doing something, “If she wasn’t cooking, she was cleaning, if she wasn’t cleaning she was knitting, if not knitting she also has a special love for her gardening.”

With four children, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, Tannie Lottie has always lived wise beyond her years therefore everyday with her should be a celebration.

“We will be celebrating with her again this coming weekend, at the Voortrekker Monument with a few family members, so we look forward to that as well,” Koos explains.
