Cyclist seriously injured after being hit by car during race
A cyclist had to be airlifted in a serious condition after being hit by a car as he took part in a race near the Cradle of Humankind over the weekend.
A cyclist taking part in a race on the M5 near the Cradle of Humankind sustained critical injuries after being struck by a motorist early Sunday morning, February 5.
A statement from Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst said the man had to be airlifted.

“Reports indicate that a cyclist, partaking in a race, was struck down by a motorist. Medics assessed the scene and found the patient, an adult male, in a serious condition. The patient was treated on scene by emergency care practitioners.”
Once the man was stabilised he was flown in the Netcare 2 helicopter to a specialised trauma unit.
